This is one of the rarest Popeye toys that Marx ever produced and is very desirable and hard-to-find! The scarcity may be due to the fact that the production was interrupted during World War II for the production of weapon parts. Marx produced a handful of toys that used the Popeye or Brutus figure individually. However, there were only two toys produced using both figures. One is Popeye the Champ Big Fight Boxing toy and the other is this nearly impossible to find Funny Firefighters toy. This piece is original, complete and in near mint condition. Both of the celluloid figures are in near mint condition and there are no cracks, breaks, dents or damage to them. It works good and when wound, it travels about chaotically in different directions while the ladder spins around in a circle with Popeye on top. The Popeye and Bluto figures are made of celluloid and are hand painted. The rest of the toy is made of tin litho. Both sides of the hood and four places on the back of the car is marked Funny Fire Fighters. Various fire fighting equipment are lithographed on the toy and include a fire extinguisher, hose, ax, hat, etc. Measures 7" long x 10.5" high.
